Class Level 4 (Teams Meeting)

This class goes over how to remove and install the milling spindle on a SMX. Then how to set up the orientation of this spindle as well. Also goes over how to remove and rebuild the B-Axis rotary unit on the machine and explains in depth the ATC unit on the machine. How to set the positions both mechanically and electronically.

This is a Multi-Tasking Machine Class (MT)

This is a half day online class, Microsoft Teams is needed for this class.

Calendar Jun 4, 2025 at 9 am

Course Level 2 (In-Person)

The class is a full tear down and rebuild of the ATC assembly and magazine for a DNM series type, along with in-class instruction and training for how it applies to other machines. Go over the concept of aligning the machine components to the ATC unit. How to check/adjust  spindle orientation, tool change position (set 2nd reference position), discuss how the control keeps track of the tooling with the data table and how to adjust the timing of the unit. Upon completion, the student should be able to easily take apart, rebuild, realign, reassemble, and re-program any applicable component of a magazine or ATC cam arm, as well as how it relates to the machine’s spindle.

On-Site: Comprehensive Mechanical + Electrical

Free

with Rich Nawrocki

Calendar Jun 24, 2025 at 9 am

Class Level 1 (In-Person)

This program is a combination of both comprehensive mechanical and comprehensive electrical trainings. The first two days will cover the mechanical area, followed by the third day, during which the instructor will go over the electrical training material. The main topics covered during the first two days will cover the following: how to calibrate levels, set levels on the machine, read moving levels, check square, test bar, and all geometry in the blue book. Review the information covered in the Manuals that are provided with the machine. Learn different hydraulics symbols, show different types of service tools, etc. Get hand on experience on how to reset the machine’s home position and perform ATC alignment, Spindle Orientation, and ATC Recovery.

On the last day of this training program, students will learn about the electrical layout of the machine. Go over detailed information on the hardware (E-Box, OP-Box, NC unit, power, and control line) and the software (how Ladder, timer, counter, keep Relay, and data table are used). Learn the proper use of Electrical Schematics. Learn how to check the status of the electric devices (Sensors, Relays, Switches, and Solenoid Valves) and perform a sample alarm diagnosis. Discuss how to diagnose alarms in Ladder, how to upload and download Ladder and how to perform All Data Backup.

Calendar Jul 8, 2025 at 9 am

Class Level 3 (In-Person)

Milling spindle disassembly and reassembly. How to check the Pusher Gap, Introduce the Rotary Union, Clamp/LVDT Sensor theory, what a BZi sensor is and how to adjust it, and all about the drawbar information (Clamp Force, Kick-Out, and Drawbar Stroke). Review how to break in the spindle, how to balance the spindle, and how to use the ATC system (alignment, spindle orient, and recovery). The last day focuses on our B-Axis RGC unit. Disassemble and reassemble this unit. Check the rotational gap, adjust the cross roller bearing run-out, and adjust the backlash on the worm wheel.
